About Mel at Home
Mel at Home was formed in 2010 to celebrate the extraordinary wealth and diversity of decorative arts and culture. Pattern, whether embroidered, woven, hand block printed or carved, enriches the soul and imbues us with stimulation in a way that is inimitable. The Mel at Home vision is the antithesis of minimalism which dismisses hundreds of years of creativity passed through generations of talented crafts people and denies our richly adorned past.
Many once thriving decorative arts are now at risk of being forgotten and Mel at Home Ltd. is proud to be helping preserve traditions including Welsh woolen mills, the hand block printing industry in Rajasthan with whom we share a historically long past, and, amongst others, the magnificent rug makers of Nepal. All of this, coupled with a fresh and modern approach to modern living makes up our distinctive style.
Mel at Home's meticulous research means that all of our suppliers provide a skill and quality that is unrivalled anywhere else in the world. Our products are entirely authentic; these pieces, destined to become antiques of the future.
About Mel? I have always had a passion for design. With a BA(Hons.) from the Courtauld Institute of Art (University of London) where I did a specialisation in historical dress and textiles, and a Masters from Sotheby's Institute (University of Manchester) in ceramics, furniture and fine art. The skill of putting it all together is the result of organising extravagant, celebrity charity events which led to appearing in prime time television programs on both ITV and BBC2.
