Tea Towel Heart Cushion

Tea Towel Heart Cushion

I made this gorgeous cushion for a magazine crafting feature and I loved it so much it lives on my bed all the time. Someone you love will be thrilled to receive something so pretty and especially touched that you made it for them (just don't mention how easy it was).

You will need:

1 pretty tea towel (get the same one we used here)

1 metre grosgrain ribbon, or other pretty ribbon

a feather cushion

a sewing machine or a needle and thread

How to:

Cut the tea towel into 3 pieces as shown. A and B will be overlapped at the back to make an opening and C is the front. Use the hemmed sides of the tea towel to your advantage so use the pre-hemmed edges already on the tea towel for the opening on the back. Lay the pieces back to front on top of each other, over lapping A and B at the back and then sew them all together. Turn the cushion the right way around and you will already have a pretty cushion.

To make the heart, cut the ribbon in two. Sew a basic running stitch along one edge of each of the ribbons and then gently pull to make the ribbon gather. You will find the ribbon naturally curls. Position the ribbons on the fabric and pin them to keep the shape as you want it.  Then sew each one on with a few stitches every cm or so. Finally trim the ribbon at the bottom into diagonals so that they make a deep 'v' for the heart shape... Happy Valentines Day!
